A very heavy duty manual lathe with massive floor mounted bed providing continuous support enabling bed lengths to provide 2 to 10 metres between centre capacity in one metre steps. It is also available with centre heights from 500 to 700 mm. With its massive strength and 30 KW variable speed main spindle drive, operator controls at the carriage, rapid power traverse to longitudinal and cross traverses, can provide outstanding productivity gains.
Comev have immense experience, a highly skilled workforce and have produced over 9,000 lathes since they were founded in 1958. The machines are manufactured complete in their factory in Italy.


BED

The massive bed casting has induction hardened and ground bed ways. The ways are 690 mm wide providing the rigidity necessary for this powerful lathe.

 

THE HEADSTOCK

It consists of a heavily ribbed casting housing the spindle and gearing for 3 speed ranges. The gears and shafts are made from Ni-Cr-Mo steel and are case hardened and ground. Using digital AC spindle drive eliminates the need for clutches and a brake, reducing heat generation and resulting in improved thermal stability and less wearing parts.



THE SPINDLE

The spindle is manufactured from a NI-Cr-Mo steel and is case hardened tempered and ground. The use of double row taper roller bearings provides massive stiffness and high radial load capability. The lathe is available with spindle bores 160 - 230 mm and spindle nose ASA 11” or ASA 15” respectively.



THE GEAR BOX

The Norton style totally enclosed universal gearbox provides a comprehensive range of both metric and imperial threads and a wide range of feed rates.



THE CARRIAGE

The heavy-duty carriage runs on vee and flat ways which ensures accuracy and stability under heavy cutting conditions. The longitudinal, cross slide and top slide screws are mounted in thrust bearings. The nuts are of special bronze and incorporate mechanisms to eliminate backlash. The carriage and slides are all fitted with adjustable tapered gibs and along with the cross slide screw are lubricated by a manual one-shot lubrication system. The operator controls, the DRO and optional taper turning facility are all conveniently placed on the carriage.



THE APRON

The main casting houses all the controls for longitudinal and cross feeds and threading operations. A mechanical safety interlock prevents the threading and turning from being engaged at the same time. Lubrication is provided by an oil bath.

THE TAILSTOCK

The heavy duty tailstock is fitted with a 140 quill diameter and has a No. 6 Morse Taper. A facility is available to position the tailstock by using the carriage.
 


ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT


All the electrical equipment is manufactured according to the appropriate international standards.
